The Resource Management and Access Group (RMA) coordinates the selection, acquisition, and management of information resources in all formats. The group is responsible for the management of vendor relationships, the allocation and management of the budget for information resources, and the negotiation and management of electronic resource licenses and contracts. In addition, RMA organizes user access to information, monitors copyright issues, and is responsible for analysis of the use of LTS information resources and critical evaluation of existing collections.
The Metadata and Collection Management section within RMA is responsible for the cataloging of materials in all formats and languages in the LOUIS database, including rare items and special collections; the maintenance of the LOUIS database; the acquisition, payment and processing of information resources; and the administration of materials for course reserve. The section also assigns metadata to digital objects.
Responsibilities of the Serials and E-resource Management section include the acquisition, payment, receipt, cataloging and binding of print journals, as well as the coordination of all activities involved with managing a growing number of electronic journals and databases. The section also provides statistical usage information for electronic databases and e-journals to inform collection development. Serials and E-resource Management staff are responsible for the maintenance of the SFX (GetIt!) and MetaLib knowledge bases and work with the Electronic Resources Group (ERG) to ensure continual access to online resources.
The Resource Sharing/Interlibrary Loan section manages the borrowing of materials from other libraries for Brandeis patrons, as well as the document delivery service for faculty. They also coordinate the lending of Brandeis materials to other libraries. In addition, the section provides statistical information to inform the LTS collection development process.
University Archives and Special Collections is also part of the Resource Management and Access group. The Department is responsible for acquiring, preserving, and providing access to primary source materials in all formats, including the University's historical records, and a broad range of manuscripts, rare books, visual materials, and artifacts that support teaching, learning, and scholarship at Brandeis University.
